Akshay compares his on-screen pairing with Saif to the famous comedy-duo Laurel and Hardy
Akshay Kumar is known for taking up social causes and openly talking about taboos. Films like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Pad Man, which pave way for public discourse on open defecation and menstruation respectively, are examples of how serious the Khiladi Kumar is about such topics. But this was not the case in the beginning of his career.
At the premiere of Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), when Akshay Kumar was suddenly asked to give a speech on AIDS, he was left dumbfounded, which made Saif Ali Khan laugh out loud.
In a recent interview, Akshay revealed the funny story which took place when the lead actors of the film, that included Saif Ali Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Rageshwari, were flown to Delhi for a special premiere. However, the producer forgot to mention that the premiere was a charity for AIDS. Akshay shared, “I didn’t know that the premiere was for charity for AIDS and suddenly a guy comes on stage and says Ab Akshayji aapko AIDS ke baarein mein kuch kahenge.’ And you know, Mr Ratan Jain (producer) forgot to tell us.”
What Akshay said next left Saif in splits. He added, “I can see Saif (Ali Khan) is laughing because he knows that I am clueless about what to say on this topic. And guess what I said? I can never forget what I said. I had no idea what to say and I just went and I said Doston, anari mat bano. Condom istemaal karo aur khiladi bano!’ Meanwhile, Saif has fallen down laughing.”
Akshay also compared his on-screen pairing with Saif to the famous comedy-duo Laurel and Hardy. Akshay and Saif were one of the most popular duos of the 90s. After Yeh Dillagi and Tu Chor Main Sipahi, this hilarious jodi was seen in several other movies, like Tu Chor Main Sipahi (1996), Keemat (1998), Aarzoo (1999) and Tashan (2008).
