Over 300 pedal to spread awareness on HIV/AIDS

Chandigarh:

To encourage healthy lifestyle and educate people, especially the youth, on HIV/AIDS, Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society organised a cycle rally from Sukhna Lake to New Lake in Sector 42 here today.

The event was organised in collaboration with Rotary Club, Chandigarh Midtown, and Inner Wheel Club, Chandigarh Midtown. The rally was flagged off by Mayor Rajesh Kalia.

Over 300 participants, including women and children, from the city took part in the rally. Participants had decorated their cycles to spread the message, “Know AIDS for No AIDS”, motivating people to come forward and gather correct knowledge about HIV/AIDS.

Project director Dr Vanita Gupta conveyed that though Chandigarh was showing a declining trend in HIV epidemic, new HIV infections emerging among high-risk groups was a concern, which could be controlled only by extensive education and awareness about the disease.

A quiz on HIV/AIDS was also organised.
